Our Story: A Cobblestone home built in 1846 by William Swales for his daughter Elizabeth as a wedding gift.
Listed on the National and State Register of Historic Places the property is rumored to have been on the Underground Railroad; small schooners sailed into the Maxwell Bay to trade Canadian wheat for the flour made at the old grist mill that still stands on the property today. A tunnel ran from the creek bed to the back of the original fireplace in the keeping room where Elizabeth cooked her meals. The pie window is the last original window left next to the original wood burning oven.
The property initially boasted a 1000 acre apple orchard along the shores of Lake Ontario.
